My name is Lara, and I am 16 years old.
Following an operation on my right big toe the wound became infected. This was not discovered for a long time and so it was not properly treated and resulted in osteomyelitis (inflammation of the bone).
After presenting at the Uniklinikum AC, my doctor prescribed 30 sessions of full, inpatient HBO therapy. The alternative would have been immediate amputation of my toe.
First of all I felt great trepidation about spending approx. 2.5 hours every day in a hyperbaric chamber. After long and detailed talks with Dr. Siekmann, I managed to overcome that fear.
Looking back, I actually enjoyed my time with the other patients and made some friends.
The success was impressive! After only three sessions the swelling of my toe had reduced considerably and the end of my toe looked quite normal.
Four weeks after the last session I was scanned in the MRT.
Our local radiologist, who originally thought amputation was the only treatment option, was visibly impressed by the success of the hyperbaric chamber. He then informed himself in great detail and will now recommend this type of therapy for similar disease pictures.
I think it would fantastic if in future more patients were given access to this versatile treatment method.
I would also like to again express my heartfelt thanks to the entire team at HBO Aachen.Оставить комментарий
